Undergrowth (Demo)
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux
The Camp Guide's Guide to Camp Guiding?
Hope it'll actually serve its purpose.
Welcome to the Team!
You play as Morgan, an undercover operative on an expedition as a camp-guide-in-training far out in the mountains. You make friends within the camps, searching for answers regarding your lost comrade—who was also undercover before they were wiped off the radar.
In time, your campmates start developing a strange infection. Some kind of mold has been growing, and it's not pretty. No reinforcements have been called, and you're essentially stranded for months.
Your mission is simple:
Find the truth behind the disappearance of your comrade...
Survive the cold with your newfound allies...
And escape the frozen confines of the mountains before it’s too late.

FAQ
- "Can I import my existing data?"
- "I have the Radio Static option enabled, but I'm getting clear Walkie audio! What gives?"
- "Who voices the creatures?"
Yes! Provided your file is at "What else could possibly go wrong?" or earlier, you can use your existing save data.
Please note, however that there is not currently a way to easily "rewind" existing save files to view the new days added within (in-game) November and December.
Days prior to January 1st do not currently have toggle-compatible Walkie audio and will always play without static. Compatibility for these lines will be added in a future update!
Arc 2 creature was performed by Lee Williams, Jason Hall, and Jett Barker. Arc 3 creature work was performed by Jason Hall, J Cuevas, and Jett Barker.

Dope as hell omg. Wish i got around to playing it during the jam so that I could've contributed to ranking TwT.
SPOILERS IN THE REST OF MY COMMENT!!!
Well! Either way, it's a super solid game. I'm genuinely really impressed with just how much this drew me in near instantly, an interest that only grew throughout the course of the game. On the surface, this is like, the furthest from the types of games/stories I normally enjoy(/not negative, just a personal preference usually), but MANNN did I enjoy myself with this. I think it partly had to do with how great the set up is; I think the moment I was hooked was with that first scene of Kyle getting bitten by the cow. Immediatelly made me think this would be a mad cow disease transferred to humans sort of deal. And then it gradually became more of a skin walker/mycelium hivemind type of deal which is even MORE interesting. The game really justifies it's run time and never looses me/makes me feel like I'm clicking through pointless fodder to get through to the meat of the story.
I love love LOVE all the characters and how unique you made them all feel. Especially camp 1, everyone there feels like their own person and that just makes em all really likeable. I particularly enjoyed Lorenzo and Aston for both just how cute of a couple they are but also the slow-burn heartwrenching tragedy that is happening, as well as Gregory in the moral dilemma his character resides within, I really feel for the guy :(((
The art is great, it's realistic enough to lend a hand to the horror aspect but also stylised enough to give is a charm that is great and SUPER pretty. My only critique vaguely would be the voice acting, and, well, not actually the acting itself per se-the acting is great! Not too exhaggerated, but also emotive enough to feel real and engaging(the sound processing/quality is also AMAZING, it genuienly feels like a movie huge props to you). My only issue would be that you've casted relatively similarly sounding people?? I wouldn't be able to pick out a character by voice, especially the male characters, they all sound too similar to me. But that might just be a me issue with remembering and recognising such a varied cast!
Either way, I really can't find any faults in this otherwise, well aside from leaving me on such a darned cliff hanger!!! Can't wait to see where this goes.
Thank you so much Asher! I'm super glad you've enjoyed Undergrowth!
(I saw this a little late, sorry!)
The team and I went into Spooktober knowing that Undergrowth would've been a 'sleeper entry', because it's definitely not a straight in-your-face horror, typical spooky monster-esque nor is it a fun time celebratory annual event (which are great btw!). I approached Undergrowth with the concept of writing a script for a movie, hoping to reflect real and raw human emotions, and I'm glad it has been well received 🥹
With regards to the point about the voice cast, I think that the sheer numbers definitely contributed to part of the problem(?). By a 'month-long game jam' scale, 18 voice actors is ambitiously huge in numbers 💀💀
I definitely have them and our voice director to thank for delivering such a wonderful performance, huge pleasure to edit their audio too! It's always cool to see how others feel about our game, I deeply appreciate hearing different opinions!
And sorry (not sorry) for the cliffhangers >:3c
But not to worry! Updates are cooking as we speak and the team and I thank you for your support!
I LOVED THIS, the art, the voice acting and the story direction! I'm so invested in these characters and trying to keep the couples together 😭Looking forward to more!
Thank you for playing and the video link, Misskatonik!! Appreciate you and good job keeping them together >:3c
Holy cats, this is massive in both scope and polish for a demo, let alone for a jam game! The voice acting is absolutely phenomenal, the characters are delightful and grounded, and the story manages to hit the sweet spot for me in terms of a tonal balance between tension and humor. I love the artwork, and the music and ambient soundscapes feel organic and add to the sense of isolation and danger. Definitely intrigued, and looking forward to seeing more! 💚
Undergrowth is a novel and well crafted narrative that manages to be warm, funny, gripping and unsettling all at once. Firstly, the game was beautiful aesthetically. I loved the art style and character design, and found it really impressive considering how many characters and locations that had to be done in 30 days! There were also great performances all round from the ensemble cast ; the characters feel real which meant I am 100% invested in whether or not they will all make it out in one piece! The story was compelling enough that even I, someone with a very short attention span, was happy to see it through to the end. I looking forward to seeing how the story ends!
I can't tell you how excited I am for this game! The world building, characterization, art, music, atmosphere captured me completely. Thank you for sharing your creativity!
Hello Malia!! I'm so glad to hear that you've enjoyed your playthrough!
The Dev team and I are determined to work on the full release, so I hope that you'll continue to support us when that happens! <3
I will definitely do this! The game is fresh and interesting. I also hope that eventually it will be on Steam.
Well I have good news because Steam release is definitely in our future plans! :D
Thank you so much for your support!! <3
